James (Pete) Buford Dorris, 86, of Ione, CA, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Pete was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was born on September 23, 1937, in Cement, Oklahoma, to James and Cleo (Holt) Dorris.
Pete served in a Navy Helicopter Utility Squadron and continued his service as a Naval Reservist after being honorably discharged. During the height of the Vietnam War, Pete was based in Southeast Asia with the CIA/Air America establishment. In 1975, he returned to Amador County, where launched a successful water well drilling, water system/pump and storage installation company, which he ran until his retirement.
Pete was known for his generous spirit, heart of gold, and unwavering dedication to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Thasanee Dorris; his children, Christine (Dorris) Sexton, Douglas Dorris, Daniel Dorris, and James Dorris; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Dorris and Cleo Velma Holt.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 9th, 6:00 PM at the New Life Christian Center, 87 Ridge Road, Sutter Creek, CA 95685.
