Stephen "Steve" W. Schuman

Stephen (Steve) W. Schuman of Hilton Head, SC and formally of Canton and Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024 at the age of 90. He was the oldest child born to Edward and Janet Schuman, of Canton, OH.

He served in the Ohio National Guard and trained as a pharmacist. He spent 30 years working in the retail drug store business, starting with the family operated store, Schuman Drugs in Canton, OH, which later merged with Lane’s Drug Stores of Toledo, OH, where he served as President. Lane’s later merged with the 250 store national chain of Peoples Drugs, where Steve become a senior vice president.

Steve is survived by his loyal and loving wife of 62 years Barbara Schuman; his three children Deborah (Jeffrey) Sussman of Cincinnati, OH, Lisa (Michael) Nyhus of Portland, OR, and Daniel (Amy) Schuman of Cleveland, OH. Steve and Barbara have 4 grandchildren, Michael (Lauren), Jonathan (Sarah), Jacob, and Kade and many grand and great-grand dogs. Steve is also survived by his brother Richard (Marsha) Schuman of Potomac, MD, and sister Ellen Forman of Potomac, MD.

Steve had a great sense of humor and left a trail of happiness wherever he went. He was always outgoing and social with friends and strangers alike. Steve was an avid golfer, poker player, sports enthusiast, and lifelong Ohio State Buckeye fan. He was also known to be smooth on the dance floor. Steve cared deeply about his family and loved the life he and Barbara shared in Hilton Head.
