ohn Charles Nelson entered peacefully into rest on July 17, 2024. He will be dearly missed and it is with a broken heart I share memories of his life.John was born on January 16. 1942, in Denver, Colorado to Carl and Mary Nelson. He grew up in a close family, and enjoyed fishing with his dad and traveling to see grandparents.He attended Holy Family High School where he was interested in science, winning first place in a science fair After graduation he attended Emily Griffith Opportunity School where he became proficient in welding. He used that skill on many jobs throughout his career. He joined the Navy in 1964 and was stationed on the USS Bennington, an aircraft carrier. It took him to many parts of the Pacific, including the South China Sea where aircraft flew over Vietnam.He was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna church. He went on several group trips to Israel, combined with excursions to Greece and Italy, coming back with a renewed spirit He has been an active member of AA for many years, helping others to join. He often talked of his friendships there and including his partner Jane. He is survived by his widowed sister, Karen Pramenko (George). and two nephews, John and Michael and their families. Funeral services will take place on August 7 at Asprn Mortuary, 6370 Union Street, Arvada. Viewing is at 10:30. Services are at 11:30. Military burial will be at 1:30 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 4499 W Kenyon Ave, Denver.
