John Mitchell Owens

John Mitchell Owens, age 81, passed away peacefully and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 5th, 2024, at his home in Charleston, SC surrounded by his family. John was born on November 9, 1942, in Paris, TN to Barney and Ruth Owen. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He married Judy Elaine Cook on October 3, 1964, and they shared 60 wonderful years together. 

He worked and retired from Alumax Aluminum Co. and continued working as Owner/Operator of J&J Custom Cabinets. He was an active member and deacon of Grace on the Ashley. He also volunteered his time with the Boys Scouts of America and was the president of American Welder Society of Charleston. Other hobbies included gardening and playing billiards with the Charleston chapter of APA where he served as team captain for 32 years. 

John is survived by his loving wife, Judy: his (4) sons Richard (Lynn) of Simpsonville, SC, David (Debbie) of Knoxville, TN, Kevin (Leslie) of Demorest, GA, Darrin of Charleston, SC; his (14) grandchildren and (2) great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on August 10th, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Grace on the Ashley, 2025 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414. 

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Grace on the Ashley Church in John’s memory.

John will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his family and community, and his quiet, peaceful nature. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
