Loved Ones

Ken passed away July 19th, 2024, surrounded by loving family at his home in Lake Tapps, WA after fighting an extended battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Hasbargen; his three living children, Lorri-Anne(Dan) Hall, Christy Humphries and Frank(Glenna) Hasbargen; his eleven grandchildren, Jessica, Cate, Brittney(Journey), Julie, Jason, Riley(Bri), Jacquie(Zack), Jeremy, Destiny(Jayce), Kenneth Patrick, Matthew; his five great grandchildren; Shilo, Everly, Lyra, Christopher, Jackson and multiple nieces and nephews. His family will greatly miss the best man, husband, father and grandfather they could have been blessed with.

Ken was preceded in death by his infant son Kenny Hasbargen, his daughter Gayle Evetts and son-in-law Ken Evetts; his birth mother Frances (Guritz) Hasbargen, father Frank Hasbargen and stepmother Alma Hasbargen, brother David Hasbargen and sister-in-law Enid Hasbargen, mother-in-law Virginia Haworth and father-in-law Charles Haworth. All were at Heaven’s gate to welcome him to his heavenly home.

He was born on July 30, 1941, in Jackson, Minnesota to Frances and Frank Hasbargen. He grew up on the family farm in Jackson. Ken lost his mom when he was 10 years old. His father remarried and his stepmother, Alma, helped to raise him to adulthood. He enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii when he met the love of his life, Diane. They married in 1961 and moved to Washington state to settle near his brother and sister-in-law, to start and to raise their family.

Ken worked for the Washington State Fisheries for 27 years and stayed active his entire life. He cared for and watched over his stepmother, Alma after his father’s early death. Ken taught his children and grandchildren how to fish, camp, hike and boat. Target practice with his sons-in-law, grandsons and granddaughter was another joy in his life. So many fun family adventures, in the old red school bus, were had with lifelong best friends, the Lindstrom’s.

He volunteered as a 4-H leader where his daughters showed horses. Volunteering at both Renton Lutheran church and Kent Lutheran church, he helped with building and property maintenance, and with overnight shifts for the severe weather and homeless shelters. WASART (Washington State Animal Rescue Team) was given some of his time starting in 2009. He helped with training, animal rescues and building anything that was needed. Back Country Horseman was another volunteer opportunity, and he helped maintain/repair public trails while teaching the next generation to do the same.

Ken used all his accumulated knowledge to help his children and grandchildren with any and every job he could help with, whenever they called. Maintaining his property in Renton and then Lake Tapps kept him busy, and he was happiest outside, working on projects or hanging out with his beloved mule, Charlie.

A private ceremony will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery to lay him to rest.

All are welcome to celebrate Ken’s life at a family get together on Saturday, August 31st from 11am to 3pm at 29612 176th Ave SE Kent, WA 98042-9420

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made in his name to
