Douglas Gene “Doug” Weatherly, 70, of Kernersville, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, August 5, 2024.
A native of Chesapeake, VA, Doug was the husband of 48 years to Kristy Tatem Weatherly and the son of Horace G. Weatherly and Virginia Smithson Weatherly, both deceased. Doug was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from College of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City, NC and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from High Point University in 1998. Doug was a long-time soccer referee for Winston-Salem and Greensboro. He was a police officer for a period of time while living in Chesapeake, VA. Doug retired from Volvo of North America after 40 years of service. Doug and Kristy were avid cruisers enjoying many trips abroad together. He was a proud father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Kristy; two sons, Gregory Paul Weatherly and wife, Sunni, and Kevin Thomas Weatherly and wife, Stacey; three grandchildren, Eleanor Weatherly, Isabel Weatherly, and Nora Weatherly; brother, David Geoffrey Weatherly and wife, Julie; sister, Jennifer Ann Koch and husband, Tim; sister-in-law, Wanda Weatherly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Thomas Weatherly.
Funeral services celebrating Doug’s life will be held at 11:00AM Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory, Kernersville, NC. The family will greet friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM Friday prior to the service in the chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
