David Leon Kleinfeldt passed away on Thursday August 15th, 2024, he was 85 years old. David lived in Boisie Idaho for 26 years and before that he lived in Vista California for 16 years, and several short stents living in Reno Nevada, Baltimore Maryland, and Louisiana. David was born in Elkhart Indiana in January 1939 and grew up living there. He was one of two children to Floyd L. Kleinfeldt and Elizabeth “Betty” Margretta Lee.David was a proud United States Marine and selflessly enlisted in the military in 1958 at the age of 19, he served 20+ long years and retired with honors in 1979. While in the Military David served in Vietnam twice and was awarded Purple Hearts. David also deployed and served time in Indonesia and Korea. David was a very decorated Marine, he received the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Metal, the Presidential Unit Citation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.After David’s retirement from the military, he went to work for the United States Postal Service for 10+ years. He was a rural and city mail carrier with a delivery route along the coast in Southern California. David loved his postal customers and treated them well. He would dress as Santa during the holidays and thoroughly enjoyed bringing young children gifts and sweet treats each year.Once David retired from the postal service, he leaned into serving his local communities through recreation centers and YMCAs. David worked as a youth camp coach and volunteer. He became known as “Coach David” for basketball and softball camps and he had a special knack for being a great referee and umpire.David’s military career provided him the opportunity to stay lean and fit. He rolled that into a passion for running marathons. Each year on his birthdays and through his 50th, David would run the same miles as his age to celebrate himself and his achievements. In 1991 David was chosen to carry a torch for The U.S. Olympic Festival that took place in Los Angeles California. David enjoys other sports such as basketball, golfing, fishing and most recently tossing a tennis ball at the park for his most trusted companion Samson.David married MaryJo Woods in April 1962, and they were married for 49 years. They brought 3 daughters into the world together, Laura, Nancy & Amy. MaryJo passed away in October 2011 from Pancreatic Cancer and Daivd re-married Susan Madsen in June 2012. David and Susan have been married for 12 years and they reside in Boise Idaho along with Susan’s daughter and grandchildren.David has 1 deceased sister, 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 sons-in-laws, and 1 daughter-in-law. David’s wife Susan who he is survived by, has 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.Davis is and will always be loved by his family and friends. His presence, grace and stubbornness will be held close in our hearts forever and the love he shared with us is endless.May you rest in peace my always faithful and always loyal father, grandfather, husband, father-in-law and Marine. Your eternal commitment to the success of our Nations battles and the steadfast devotion to your fellow Marines and Veterans is unwavering.
