Gregory Guy Walker
February 3rd, 1953 - August 18th, 2024
“Fare you well, fare you well . . . I love you more than words can tell . . . Listen to the river sing sweet songs . . . To rock my soul - Grateful Dead
Gregory Guy Walker, 71, spun the wheel closer to enlightenment on Sunday August 18, 2024. Born February 3, 1953 in Alpena, Michigan, Greg spent his time in this life looking for, cultivating, and spreading a greater understanding. Whether that came from explaining why an anhinga needs to shake its head to swallow the fish or just a pleasant exchange with the person working a cash register. Maybe it was playing an old folk song that no one has heard in almost forty years. Or sending a song along because he thought it would make you laugh, it was all about finding the connections; between it and him, him and them, and ultimately everything else.
Greg leaves behind a large, blended, and loving family including a loving wife and partner Marta and her children Erika Howell and Elena (Andy) Ameter. He also leaves behind Beverly Little Walker, mother of his three children Kendra, Alyson, and Rachel Walker. Seven grandchildren Jaden Walker, Katlyn Kearney, Colin Walker, Airen Walker, Scarlette Kearney, Jackson Ameter, and Olivia Ameter will miss their Grandpa Greg. Greg also leaves behind a brother Richard (Min) Walker and sister-in-law Karen (Kent) Walker, along with many close friends and neighbors. His loyal furry companions Skamp, Otis, and Ellie will miss him very much.
His was a life lived in brilliant technicolor, full of joy, sorrow, beauty, wisdom, and awe. Greg was always looking for another chance to reach for a greater insight; always trying to learn from things that have already come to pass. Greg sought to leave this life with enough knowledge to do better in the next: to return with more love and a greater understanding for the next go round.
A gathering of friends and family will take place at a later date to help us say goodbye to this special soul and start him on his next journey.
If you wish to make you own gesture to remember Greg, the family hopes you’ll consider making a donation of time or resources to a charitable cause.
“When you come to the edge of all the light you know, and are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly.”
