Steve Montanaro
December 29th, 1942 - August 26th, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Steve Montanaro, a cherished Husband, Father, and Nonno. Steve departed peacefully at his home on August 26, 2024, at the age of 81, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife of nearly 57 years, Anna Maria. He is survived by his beloved children, Annette Montanaro, Laura (Brian) Werner, and Steven (Debra) Montanaro, as well as his treasured grandchildren, Nadia, Ava, Kathleen, Isabella, and Alexander.
Steve was known for his humility, sharp wit, and wisdom, relishing every moment with his family. At the age of 15, he left Calvi Risorta, Italy, to settle in Rochester, NY. Shortly after graduating from high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably and attained the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, Steve met and married his beloved wife, Anna Maria. He spent nearly three decades working at General Motors, all the while pursuing his lifelong passion for competitive soccer. A self-taught artist and poet, Steve created stunning paintings and wrote heartfelt poems until his final days. He recently published a collection of his works titled, “An Immigrant’s Poetic Medley”.
For the past 15 years, Steve and Anna Maria enjoyed their life together in the Tampa, Florida area, finding joy in family moments and tending to their garden. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, and the love he shared with those closest to him will ensure his legacy endures.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, please consider donating to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, Lewiston NY, in Steve’s memory. Thank you.
