Robert "Bobby" Benites
April 9th, 1949 - August 23rd, 2024
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Robert (Bobby) Benites, 75, on August 23rd, 2024. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Maryalice and Albert Serna, brother-in-law Jim Molina, sister-in-law Tamia Benites, 9 nieces and nephews, and 15 great nieces and nephews. Preceding Bobby in death were his parents, Ernie (Dayo) and Natalia Benites, brothers Dale and Patrick Benites, and sister Carol Molina.
Bobby graduated from Rincon High School in 1967, attended Phoenix College, and moved to California, where he resided for over 30 years. He was employed as a mortgage banker until 1998 when he came back home to Tucson to help care for his brother, Dale.
Bobby had two passions in life. One for his mother's and sisters' homemade Mexican food and the other for music. After his mom passed, he continued to enjoy eating Mary and Carol's tacos, chimis, pozole, and most of all, their homemade red chili and green corn tamales! He was also a great cook himself!
His passion for music was undeniable. One of his favorite things to do was spending time with his dad and brothers, brother-in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews, sipping a cold one and listening to Janis Joplin, Santana, The Rolling Stones, Aretha, and all genres. He also loved to attend concerts. He took so many family members to amazing shows and always, always bought a program and t-shirt! His album collection was out of this world - well over 5,000 at one point! So many greats.
And lastly, Bobby sure loved watching the U of A basketball games. He would call the family to remind them when the games were going to be televised and call during the games to make sure we saw some great shot, or terrible call, or just to talk about what a good game they were playing!
Our family will miss him terribly. Especially his witty nicknames he gave all his nieces and nephews! Rest now Uncle Hippie and give hugs to the rest of the family up there, love you!
