Betty Prescott
November 24th, 1931 - August 30th, 2024
Betty Jane (Schwartz) Prescott of Cambridge, WI crossed over into Eternal Life on August 30th, 2024, at the age of 92.
Betty was born on November 24, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Clarence and Minnie (Sleider) Schwartz. She attended South Division High School, graduating in June, 1949. Betty attended the Salvation Army before joining the Grace Methodist Church. After High School she worked at Aetna Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee.
Betty married Don Prescott of Cambridge in 1951 and lived in Cambridge for the next 73 years. She taught Sunday School for over 30 years and was an Awana Leader for 10 years. Over the years Betty also worked with Camp Fire Girls and was a Den Mother. Her life-long love of reading lead her to be a member of the Cambridge Friends of the Library and to serve on an early Cambridge Library Board of Directors. She spent many years as a member of the Willerup Methodist Church and also attended Faith Community Church in Fort Atkinson.
Betty had several jobs in the Cambridge area over the years, including the American Family Insurance Agency in Cambridge, before taking a job with the Department of Natural Resources in Madison. She spent the next 20 years with the DNR before retiring at age 74. Betty loved her time with the DNR which included working with Environment Education programs like Project Wild / Wild Aquatic and Project Learning Tree.
Over the years Betty had many hobbies and collections including dolls, spoons, and other things that caught her interest. She loved to embroider. Betty enjoyed travelling and had visited all 48 mainland states, as well as Mexico and parts of Canada. She loved to decorate for Christmas and baked a LOT of cookies during the Christmas season to distribute to family, neighbors, and friends.
Betty is survived by her three sons; Thomas of Menomonie; Randall (Jacqueline) of Cambridge; Jeffrey (Christine) of Germantown. She has five grandchildren; Jennifer, Eric (Andrea), Jarod (Kelsey), Jacob, Zachary and three great grandchildren; Brennah, Marissa and Fox. Betty has many nieces and nephews living around the country. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Shirley Orndoff (Merle) and her brother Raymond Schwartz (Lorry).
The service is scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Willerup Methodist Church, 414 W. Water Street, Cambridge, WI. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial at the Willerup Methodist Church Cemetery will take place after the service with fellowship luncheon at the church to follow.
The family would like to thank the staff of Marquardt Health Care Center in Watertown and the staff of Common Heart Hospice for their compassionate care.
Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Library, the Salvation Army, the Cambridge Fire Department, or a Mission organization of choice.
