Elvin Dean Patten
April 25th, 1942 - September 3rd, 2024
Elvin Dean Patten was born April 25, 1942 to Franklin H. and Gail L. Patten in Enid, OK. He was the youngest of 7 siblings.
He moved to the big city of Greeley when he was 2 years old; lived in Galeton a short time and has been a resident of the Eaton, Greeley area since.
He started school in Galeton and graduated from Ault High School. He played football, baseball, basketball and ran track during his high school years. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army in 1960. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1963. Upon returning to Greeley, he met his beautiful wife, Barbara, during the summer and married that December in 1963. He later became a doting daddy to Shellie, Kathy, and Sonia. He was the most amazing family man that a family could truly have.
He began his career in law enforcement in 1964 with the Greeley Police Department, achieving the ranks of Detective and Lieutenant. Upon retiring he then joined the Weld County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff, retiring in 2002. Retirement proved to be too much for him, so he went back to work for Agfinity in Eaton, finally retiring for good in 2017.
He was a member of the Greeley Moose Lodge and belonged to the Greeley Merry Mixers. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and watching the Broncos. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, including his four grandchildren, and his seven great-grandchildren, playing “Grandpa’s Taxi” and always teaching them life’s lessons. Family was important to him and he to them.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his five brothers, and youngest daughter. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of 61 years, his two daughters, Kathy Patten and Shellie (Charles) Morefield, his sister Lorene Hirsch, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday September 21, 2024 at 11:00 am at Adamson Life Celebration Home, in Greeley, Colorado.
