Nancy Iretta Anderson

Nancy Iretta Anderson passed away peacefully on July 8, 2024, in Silver Spring, Maryland. She traveled her 98-year journey with love expressed through her spirit, avid curiosity, and joy. Nancy was born in Buffalo, New York, June 12, 1926, to Charles McKinley King and Pauline Redmon.

She graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1948. She married David Lewis Anderson, her husband of 56 years with two daughters Kathy and Paula.

Active early in the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement, Nancy partnered with David to establish the Essex County chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) in Orange, New Jersey. Later in the 60’s she received a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska School of Social Work. Nancy’s love of nature and travel led her, and David travel many parts of the world. A swimmer for 30 years, Nancy competed in the Maryland Senior Olympics in swimming, winning gold, silver (for 50 yards,) and bronze (for 100 yards) medals.

Nancy love of life led her to Jesus Christ. Nancy is predeceased by her parents Charles McKinley King and Pauline Redmon, and siblings Mary Frances Malone and Bobbie Curry, and beloved husband, David Lewis Anderson. Nancy is survived by her daughters, Kathy Elaine Anderson and Paula Louisa Anderson.
