Gary Dean Knittle, born on February 23, 1943, in Olympia, Washington, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, in his beloved hometown. A man of many facets and boundless energy, Gary left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gary's journey began in the serene landscapes of Olympia, where his formative years were spent. At the young age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served with distinction from February 29, 1960, until February 28, 1966. His tenure with the Marines was one of dedication and service, laying the foundation for the hardworking and honorable life he led.
After his time in the Marines, Gary transitioned to a career at the Olympia Brewery, where he worked as an engineer for an impressive 40 years. Not one to settle for a single path, he also ventured into entrepreneurship, owning and operating Knittle Trucking for 15 years. His diverse career showcased his versatility and commitment to excellence in every endeavor he undertook.
Gary was a man who lived life to its fullest, known for his infectious humor and boundless energy. Friends and family alike were often the recipients of his jokes and playful pranks. He cherished honest conversations and was unafraid to speak his mind, ensuring that everyone around him experienced life vividly and meaningfully.
His interests were as diverse as his accomplishments. A car enthusiast, especially of hot rods, Gary was an avid NASCAR fan and a passionate motorcycle rider. He found joy in the tranquility of fishing and derived immense fulfillment from spending quality time with his family and friends. These simple yet profound pleasures defined his life, resonating deeply with all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his loving daughter, Kristeen Watkins, her Husband Brad Watkins, Their two Sons Drew Watkins, and Alex Watkins, his wife Ashley Watkins and their daughter, Garys great granddaughter, Emersyn Watkins. His devoted brother, Robert Knittle, two cherished grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Gary also is survived by several nephews, great nephews and two great great nephews. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his humor, honesty, and unwavering zest for life. Gary is once again reunited with his mother, Jean Wood, father, David Knittle. Joining Gary once more is his two brothers David “Mike” Knittle and Jack Knittle and Garys son, Dean Knittle.
A ceremony to honor and celebrate Gary's life will be held on September 12th, 2024, beginning at 11:30 A.M. at the Odd Fellows Memorial Park, located at 3802 Cleveland Ave SE, Tumwater, Washington. Family, friends, and all those who were touched by Gary's spirit are invited to attend and commemorate his remarkable life and legacy.
Gary Dean Knittle's remarkable journey, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication, will be fondly remembered and forever cherished. May he rest in peace.
