Mary Kathleen McSharar
December 21st, 1955 - September 8th, 2024
Mary Kathleen “Kathy” McSharar 68, passed away on September 8, 2024, with the Blessing and in the Care of The Joe Raso Hospice Residence located in New City, New York.
Kathy was the second child born to Mary Anilda and Thomas P. McSharar Jr. on December 21, 1955, followed by an additional five brothers for a total of six brothers in the family. She may have been outnumbered, but still held her own presence in every way, all the while gracefully learning how to ultimately become the Matriarch of our family, although it’s the title she graciously carried for far too short of a time.
Kathy was a lifelong resident of Rockland County and Communicant of St. Peters R.C. Church in Haverstraw, having received all of her Holy Sacraments there. After graduating from St. Peters School and North Rockland High School, she went on to take classes at Rockland Community College. Kathy’s devotion to service for the St. Peter’s community continued, dedicating countless hours volunteering with the CYO program at the school throughout her life.
Kathy started her professional career first with Kay-Fries, StonyPoint, followed by several more years with Chromalloy, Orangeburg. Ultimately, she settled into her final and decades long position in the Purchasing Department of the County of Rockland, faithfully serving the citizens of Rockland County.
Kathy’s professional time spent was simply a second job to her and never got in her way of what she considered her first calling, and that was that of an extremely independent and proud single parent, having gifted our Family with her son Garrett McSharar. She raised Garrett solely, all the while having afforded him every sporting, educational and social opportunity that most two parent families would struggle to, rarely if ever needing asking for help. Garrett in kind appreciation eventually evened the playing field, having been in the minority with so many brothers gave Kathy the Daughter-in-Law that she considered as much her daughter as anyone could, Mrs. Tatyana McSharar, followed by two beautiful Granddaughters, Mia and Lily. With a perfectly balanced ever presence, Kathy, aka “Nana”, assumed the successful role of Grandmother as she did as Mother and supported her two Granddaughters with their schooling, on the sidelines, bleachers and occasionally at a bus stop.
Being the only daughter born to Thomas he, in his wisdom, passed his incredible artistic ability to his only daughter, knowing that she too would embrace it and too would grant it to her son in time. Kathy’s artwork never hung on a museum wall or published in a grand theme but was a gift that she shared within paintings and ceramics. Her work was often accomplished with the use of a single bristle artist’s brush, giving detail to those pieces that only after several thousand thoughtful strokes, evolved into a Grand Masterpiece, much the way one would say she lived her life.
Preceding Kathy in death are her Grandparents Kathleen (Welsh) and Joseph Rabatin, Bridget and Thomas P. McSharar Sr. Parents Mary Anilda & Thomas P. McSharar Jr. Those surviving are her son Garrett and his wife Tatyana. Her granddaughters Mia and Lily. Her brothers James (Janet), Thomas (Cynthia), Joseph (Lorraine), Dennis, John (Margaret)and Francis (Janet). Additionally surviving and especially dear to Kathy were her Aunts, Kathleen Mancuso (Michael dec.), Joan Palkovich (Michael dec,) and cousins Mary Lynn (James) Carregal and Kathleen Martucci.
