Sandip Kaur Rai Shergill

February 15, 1983 -September 6, 2024With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Sandip Kaur Rai Shergill, 41, of Yuba City, CA, on Friday, September 6, 2024. Sandip passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Yuba City,CA, Sandip was the cherished daughter of Balraj Singh Rai, and Surinder Kaur Rai. 

She attended Barry Elementary School, Yuba City High School, and Yuba Community College. Her pursuit of higher education led her to California State University, Sacramento, CA, where she earned her Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice, followed by a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy. 

Sandip dedicated 17 years of service to the Sutter County Probation Department, where she began as a probation officer. Through her hard work, dedication, and leadership, she advanced to supervising probation officer and most recently, deputy chief probation officer. Sandip's commitment to her community and her profession was an inspiration to all who knew her. 

Those fortunate enough to know Sandip, will remember her for her warmth, kindness, and selflessness. She had a remarkable ability to light up a room with her infectious smile and vibrant personality. A natural leader, she thrived on bringing people together and nurturing strong relationships. Sandip was always thinking of others, putting their needs ahead of her own. 

Sandip is survived by her devoted husband, of seven years, Jaswinder Singh Shergill; and their beloved son, Cameron Singh Shergill. She also leaves behind her parents, Balraj Singh Rai and Surinder Kaur Rai; her brother, Baljit Singh Rai; her sister, Baldip Kaur Phagura; her brother-in-law, Shavinder Singh Phagura; her niece, Jasleen Kaur Rai; and her nephews, Eshaan Singh Rai, and Ryan Singh Phagura. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Chanan Kaur Rai.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all friends, relatives, colleagues, and community members for their prayers, support, and kindness during this difficult time. 

A service to honor Sandip's life will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City, CA, on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11 AM, followed by prayers at the Bogue Road Sikh Temple.
