Wendy Pollard
July 8th, 1955 - September 10th, 2024
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, Wendy Higgins Pollard, 69, of Prosperity, SC passed on to the next step in her spiritual journey at Richland Memorial Hospital. She was the loving wife of John Pollard, Jr, mother of Larry Schalitzky, and daughter of the late Reba & Ruel Higgins. While Larry was her only biological child, she had many children.
Wendy was a retired counselor for Newberry County Schools where she worked both at Newberry High School and the Alternative School. She served many populations in Newberry County.
For years, before working with the schools, she was the owner of Exploring Alternatives, LLC as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Not only did she provide counseling services, she worked with the court system on Domestic Violence reform programs, worked with grants to provide education, GEDs, & job seeking services to single parents during the welfare reform years, and also worked with the schools to keep students in school as much as possible. During this time, she gained many more children.
During retirement, aside from traveling, Wendy was able to enjoy more time creating art, going to music festivals and concerts, walking, spending time in the yard and enjoying her flowers.
She is survived not only by her husband and many children, sons & daughters-in-law, but also three brothers: Michael Higgins, Tim Higgins, & Patrick (Teresa) Higgins; her sister, Sherry Peysson; her grandchild, William Lounsbury; many nieces, nephews, & cousins from across the country.
Wendy loved all plants, but her favorites were tulips. There is a plan to plant a special garden in her yard. In lieu of cut flowers, the family asks if you would like to send flowers, please send tulips or tulip bulbs or please make a donation to Sistercare.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at 3304 Cy Schumpert Road, Prosperity, South Carolina 29127. Please bring a chair.
