Kay Hartgrove
1961 - 2024
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened.” – Anatole France
Kay Hartgrove, age 63 of Gate City, VA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 16, 2024. Kay was born on March 25, 1961, in Sullivan County, TN to Vernon and Reba Hartgrove. Kay graduated from Gate City High School, and she received a full basketball scholarship to attend Hiwasse College in Madisonville, TN. After graduating from Hiwassee College with her master's degree, Kay proudly served her country in the U.S. Army during the early to mid 1980’s.
Kay worked as a CPR and First Instructor during her life, as she always had a caring attitude for everyone. Kay also had a heart for rescuing animals and supporting local animal shelters. One of the main animal organizations that she was involved with was The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, TN.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory are her twin sister, Kim Wininger and husband Tim; sister, Rhonda Hartgrove; brothers, David Hartgrove and his wife Diane, and Mike Hartgrove; and many loving nieces and nephews.
It was Kay’s wish to be cremated, so no formal services will be held.
To honor Kay’s memory, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the animal shelter / rescue of your choice.
