Steve Johnson, 78, of Vail, AZ, passed away on Friday, September 13th, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 27th, 1946 in Nebraska to Thomas and Mary Anna Johnson.
Steve was a simple man that loved his family fiercely. He was a good husband, a good father, and an amazing grandfather to his grandchildren. He was funny and known for his one liners that kept the mood light and positive. He loved to fish, golf, follow Nebraska and Arizona football and play cards. His humor, competitive spirit, and kindness will never be forgotten.
He was also a proud military veteran serving in the United States Navy. He graduated from Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann Johnson, daughter, Kim (Wayne) Fraleigh, and son, Matthew (Georgia) Johnson; grandchildren Noah, Abby, Lucas, and Macie; sisters Ginny (Larry) Hinrichs and Sue (Steve) Wickham; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM on September 18th at St. Rita in the Desert Catholic Church in Vail, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice. A burial with full Military Honors will be held at a later date at Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
