Helen Kelly
January 12th, 1951 - September 11th, 2024
“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” ― A.A. Milne
Helen M. Kelly, formerly of Southwest Philadelphia, passed away on September 11th, 2024, at the age of 73.
Born to the late James and Catherine (nee Hegarty) Campbell on January 12th, 1951. Helen is the beloved sister of Kathleen (Bill) Boileau, Mary (Pete) Stewart, Joseph (Bobbie) Campbell, and Rosemary (Jack) Shoemaker. Growing up in Philadelphia, Helen attended West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School as graduating class of 1969. As a family, they often took trips to the Philadelphia Zoo & Wildwood once a year. As a teenager, Helen had a summer job at Lime Ricky on the Wildwood Boardwalk.
Helen met the love of her life, the late John Kelly (2018). The pair married on September 25th, 1975, spending a loving 43 years together. Helen and John welcomed their two beloved children, Kevin Kelly, and Karen (David) Doughten. As a family, they continued Helen's family tradition of going to Wildwood for summer vacations, often to crab & go fishing and spend quality time with one another. Helen, not being much of a beach person, found solace by walking the boardwalk at night while her kids enjoyed the rides. As her children became older, they gave Helen the greatest gift of all, becoming the grandmother of Brandon and Ryan. Helen loved having her grandchildren around to fill the home with laughter and joy.
While she loved her human family, there was a special place in her heart for her furbabies Molly and Maggie. Helen's deep love for dogs has followed her throughout her life. Her family recalls when Helen was in elementary school and a stray dog followed her home, Helen stayed on the porch for hours until her mom allowed the dog to come inside for only one night. Lucky for Helen, her furry friend never left. Helen's persistence to stand her ground followed her into adulthood as her family recounts her strong, witty personality, and "tell it like it is" mentality.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Helen's name to ASPCA or Homeward Bound.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helen's visitation on Monday, September 23rd, 2024, from 11am - 12pm at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, located at 362 Ganttown Rd, Sewell, NJ, 08080, followed by a funeral mass in Helen's name at 12pm.
Interment will be held privately by family.
