Jimmie "Jim" Glenn Buchanan
May 13th, 1940 - September 14th, 2024
Jimmie (Jim) Glenn Buchanan of Charlotte, NC, passed away on September 14th, 2024 at the age of 84 after complications from surgery for oral cancer. He was surrounded by loving family members as he left this world.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte NC at 3 p.m. with a gathering of family and friends at 2 p.m.
Jim was born in La France, Anderson County, South Carolina on May 13,1940 to Rufus Gleen Buchanan and Ida Ladd Buchanan. He attended Easley High School and American University. He also served in the US Marine Corps. Jim then worked in managerial roles at BI-LO supermarkets in Pickens, Florence, and Columbia, SC before moving to Charlotte, NC where he continued working for BI-LO. He later worked for Park-N-Shop supermarket, Giant Genie Supermarket and PetSmart. After moving to Charlotte, he was introduced to Nancy Clifton Honeycutt through a mutual friend, and they married in July 1984. Jim loved puzzles and games, especially Wordle, reading books of all types, writing, capturing memories through photography, and connecting with others on Facebook.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Ida Buchanan, son William (Billy) E. Buchanan, sisters Margaret Ellen B. Moore and Helen Catherine B. Foster. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, sisters Frances B. Gibson and Betty B. Stewart (Lee), son James G. Buchanan of Kennewick WA, daughter Leta L. Buchanan (Stephen) of Greenville SC, stepsons John B. Honeycutt (Emily) of Raleigh NC, Thomas C. Honeycutt of Charlotte NC, and Michael E. Honeycutt of Castle Hayne NC, and grandchildren William Buchanan Jr., Zachary Buchanan, Garrett Buchanan, Matthew Bailey, Elizabeth Honeycutt, Olivia Honeycutt, and Michael J. Honeycutt. Jim is also survived by several great grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and/or Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC
