With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandpa – Avelino U. Irinco, age 90, in Salinas, CA.; surrounded by family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Apolonio and Luisa Irinco; and brother Antero Irinco.

Avelino was born in Catubig, Northern Samar, Philippine Islands.  He worked at Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. for 15 years before the plant closure.  He received his small engine repair certification from Hartnell College in 1985.  With help from Alicia Esponilla, he was able to obtain a job at the JM Smucker Co. plant in Salinas.  He retired after 18 years in the year 2000.

Among his hobbies he loved fishing, cooking, going to casinos, playing poker at family gatherings, attending his grandkids school and sporting events, and going on many vacations with his wife and family, especially when the grandkids accompanied them.   Avelino loved to dance and took every opportunity to show off his dancing skills at parties and club events.  The first dance he taught his wife, Julie, was the Tango.  The rest is dancing history.

One of his proudest moments was when he walked his daughter, Julee, down the church aisle when she married her high school sweetheart, Eric Rarang in 1999.  Another proud moment occurred when he walked his niece, Elaine Irinco down the aisle for her wedding to Brandon Sol in 2021.

He gave special attention each and all of his grandkids from their birth, many birthdays, special events, accomplishments, and to those that have graduated or are about to graduate.  Avelino was so proud to be called their Grandpa.

Avelino leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Julita (Julie) Irinco; children:  Jr. Irinco, Lorenzo Irinco (Yolanda), and Julee Rarang (Eric).  Grandchildren:  Jaysen Irinco, Jered Irinco, Janine Irinco, Jaylyn Irinco, Marissa Mojica, Sophia Irinco, Eryk Rarang, Ejaya Rarang, and Adan Villicana.  He also leaves behind his sister, Anita Benasa, Philippine Islands. Avelino is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, CA 93905.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at Madonna del Sasso Church in Salinas on Friday, Sept. 27 at 1:00 pm.  Interment will follow at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Salinas.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
