Virgil William Burk
August 29th, 1930 - September 27th, 2024
Virgil William Burk passed away peacefully on the morning of September 27, 2024. Virgil was born on August 29, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the parents of Tillie and Oliver Burk. He enlisted into the United States Army at the age of 20 years old. He became a Sergeant medical tech in the Korean War and later became a printer when he returned home. Into his older years Virgil was very active in his community and joined the Legion of Honor and loved to attend music sessions held at Creekside Community Center on Thursday mornings where you would find him singing or dancing.
Virgil loved to travel with his wife, DeNell, driving across county to visit his daughter, Joyce, and granddaughter, Julia, out in California biannually making a stop in Vegas on their way home to play Keno, his and his wife’s favorite casino game.
Virgil loved fishing and was an avid fisherman. He loved telling stories about fishing and catching walleye. Everyone that met Virgil said he had a wonderful smile and was just the sweetest guy they had ever met as he was always so friendly to everyone. He enjoyed playing and teaching guitar. He even wrote his own song.
Virgil is survived by his wife, DeNell Burk, Granddaughter, Julia Brooks-Hall and Grandson In-law, Norman Hall, Great-Grandsons, Ethan and Dylan Hall, Stepson, James Schossow, Grandson, Jason Schossow, Granddaughter, Jamie Schossow, and Grandson, Zachary Schossow. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Tillie Burk, son Dean Burk, and daughter Joyce Burk-Brooks.
A memorial service will be held at Twin Cities Cremation on Thursday, October 17th at 11 AM with a visitation one hour prior. 344 University Ave. W., St. Paul, MN. Virgil will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
