In Loving Memory of Mark Raymond Lewis November 12, 1963 – September 24, 2024
With profound sadness, we share the passing of Mark Raymond Lewis, age 60, who left us peacefully on September 24, 2024, in Port Charlotte, Florida, surrounded by the family he cherished. Mark was born to Marilyn Winfrey and Thomas Poholsky and was lovingly adopted by Lillian and Edward Lewis, who raised him in Punta Gorda, Florida.
A graduate of Charlotte High School, Mark was known for his athletic prowess, excelling in both football and basketball. His passion for life and connection with others was evident in his work as a taxi driver and later as the owner of Checker Cab of SWFL, where he earned the respect and friendship of countless members of his community.
Mark’s love for sports was a cornerstone of his life, especially his devotion to NASCAR and his beloved Miami Dolphins. But it was his role as a father and grandfather that brought him the greatest joy. His family was his world, and the time spent with his children and grandchildren was filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments. Known for his quick wit and infectious humor, Mark’s resilience and courage in the face of illness inspired those who knew him.
Mark is preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Lillian and Edward Lewis; his brother, Thomas Lewis; and his biological father, Thomas Poholsky. He is survived by his biological mother, Marilyn Winfrey; his loving wife, Laura Lewis; his children, Scott Lewis, Ally Lewis & Dominique Nguyen, Gabi Lewis, and Emily Lewis & Jake Dinnan; and his cherished grandchildren, Kelsey Lewis, Claire Dinnan, Hudson Nguyen, Koda Dinnan, and Finn Lewis.
A visitation will be held at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 9400 Indian Springs Cemetery, Punta Gorda, FL, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. A Mass celebrating Mark’s life will take place on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W Charlotte Ave, Punta Gorda, FL. A reception will follow at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home.
During this difficult time, we are reminded of the love and kindness Mark extended to everyone around him. As we gather to celebrate his life and legacy, we find ourselves unprepared for the financial costs of his funeral service. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask for donations to help support the family during this challenging time. Any contribution, no matter the size, will be deeply appreciated and will help us honor Mark in a way that reflects the joy and love he brought into our lives.
