David "Drew" McLellan, 54, of Lexington, passed away on September 29th, 2024. He was born on June 5th, 1970, in Lexington, KY to Pattie White (Stephens) and the late David W. McLellan, Jr. Drew was a self-employed, custom homebuilder who lived a rich, fulfilling life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Drew was a dedicated and active leader in the homebuilding industry at the local, state, and national levels. He served in leadership roles including President of the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Central KY and President of the Home Builders Association of Kentucky (HBAK). He was instrumental in the establishment of the Building Institute of Central Kentucky. As an advocate, he was passionate about the need and promotion of educational opportunities in the industry for future skilled trades. He made a significant impact on the industry, leaving a legacy of integrity and quality home construction. Drew’s peers admired him for his commitment and vision, awarding him BIA Builder Member of the Year and the HBAK Outstanding Lifetime Builder Achievement Award.

Drew was a born leader, president of something for as long as anyone can remember. In addition to his professional leadership, he served as Class President at Tates Creek High School and President, later Alumni Advisor of Delta Tau Delta at the University of Kentucky. Drew cast a wide net in his relationships, always offering a hug and smile. He cared for people in all walks of life and was always the first to help someone in need. Drew loved hiking, traveling, and was a dedicated member of Christ Church Cathedral. From cruises, boating, and kayaking to Charlevoix Michigan, Melbourne and Vero Beach Florida, he loved the water and most of all his family. He was a dedicated son, brother, life spouse, friend, but most proud of being a father. He loved his children more than anything and believed them to be his greatest love, achievement, and legacy.

Drew is survived by his three children, Alexandra “Alex”, Bryan, and Ashley McLellan; his life spouse plus one, Catherine Stovall; his sister, Patricia “Trish” Mars (Ken); his niece, Aeva McLellan; Uncle Jimmy White (Debra); Aunt Elizabeth “Libby” White, and all his beloved Florida family.

A celebration of Drew’s life will be held at Christ Church Cathedral (Episcopal) in Lexington, KY on October 4th, 2024, at 10:30 AM with a reception immediately following at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BIA Education Foundation (501c3) to the Drew McLellan Memorial Fund in support of students attending the Building Institute of Central Kentucky (link on BIACentralKY.com), or checks can be mailed to 3146 Custer Drive, Lexington, KY 40517.
