David A. Griffin

David A. Griffin, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Mountain Valley Hospice after a brief illness.

Born on February 24, 1943 in Amsterdam, a son of the late Anthony Sr. and Veronica (Zostautas) Griffin, Dave was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from St. Mary’s Institute.

At a young age Dave’s very first job was at his family’s business The Griffin Hotel & Wil-Ton Lanes in Amsterdam, where Dave worked as a Pin Boy. He then went on to work for over 25 years at Sonoco Products Company until their closing. Following the closure Dave attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College and earned a Certificate in Electronics and another in Automotive Technology, which landed him jobs at the Watervliet Arsenal and eventually General Electric Power Systems in Schenectady. He retired from General Electric in 2012. Most of all, Dave was a talented do-it-yourselfer, always willing to help anyone.

On February 26, 1966 Dave married his wife Gail (Aspin) Griffin, it was a loving union until her passing on September 30, 2015. Together Dave and Gail had four daughters who survive him, Sherri Cole (James Zenner), Heather Griffin, Wendy Jager and Jenifer Lindsay (Paul); grandchildren Callie & Mackenzie Lindsay and Liam & Aidan Jager; sister-in-law Elaine Chapin (Milton). Other family members also survive.

Calling hours for Dave will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 1pm until 3pm at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
