Delsia A. Arndt, 94, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully at Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care after a brief illness on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, with her loving daughter and son in law by her side.

 

She was born on February 20, 1930, in Granville, NY to the late Carrie (Hoar) and Harry Hayes Sr. Delsia was raised between Granville and Argyle and attended local schooling. She moved to Gloversville in 1946, and eventually moved to Amsterdam in 1948 where she resided for the remainder of her life. It was here that she started her family and spent her time raising her four children. During this time, she was also employed as a binder through Amsterdam Printing & Litho, where she worked for nearly 26 years before her retirement in 1990. 

 

Delsia was a member of several bowling leagues throughout her lifetime. After her retirement, she became a personal care aid to assist others with help to their medical appointments. She enjoyed taking photos of and with her family. Delsia was also of Protestant faith and enjoyed going to church with her daughter Maureen.

 

She was predeceased by her parents Carrie and Harry Hayes Sr; brothers Samuel and Harry Hayes Jr; sister Helen Alvarez; sons Mark and Thomas Arndt; and daughter Linda Ritchie.

 

Delsia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Maureen and Michael Schmidtmann; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as her extended family at Pineview Commons Assisted Living Facility where she was residing.

 

Per Delsia’s request, there will be no services at this time and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Delsia was laid to rest on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Kings Cemetery in Northampton, NY.
