Donald E. Sowle

March 19, 1937 – October 2, 2024

Don Sowle passed peacefully on October 2, 2024, at the age of 87.  He joins his father Elton, his mother Ruth, his brother Paul, and his wife of over 60 years, Sharon in eternal rest in Heaven.  He is survived by his daughters Judy and Tammy, sons-in-law Mark and Ron, and sister-in-law Dorothy.  His memory and legacy will be honored by his nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  His family will always remember him for his wisdom, his unwavering love, and the faith that guided him throughout his life.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, the Sowle family moved to Tucson, Arizona when Don was a young boy.  He was a proud graduate of Tucson High School, where he shined as an athlete.  Don loved country music and played the acoustic guitar and harmonica throughout his life.  He worked for the U.S. Forest Service, ASARCO, and was a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – Local 570.  His work ethic and dedication were matched only by his love for his family and his faith in God.

A talented and fearless race car driver, Don was the 1960 Arizona State Modified Champion and was inducted in the Tucson Speedway Hall of Fame in 2002.  Don and Sharon were proud members of the Tucson Street Rod Association. They loved to showcase their 1932 Ford Coupe in car shows across Arizona.  Don was a brilliant craftsman, mechanic, and welder.  He restored his own cars and was in the process of restoring a 1923 Ford T-Bucket Track Roadster.  Don was a lifelong outdoorsman who found peace and joy in hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lake.  Whether it was spending quiet mornings in the woods or zipping around Apache Lake in his boat, he cherished these moments in nature. He shared these passions with his family and beloved dogs, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

To honor Don’s memory, his family will hold a visitation and funeral service on October 17, 2024 at Bring’s Mortuary East. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and the service will follow at 11:00 AM.  Anyone who knew or adored Don is invited to attend, wear boots and jeans, and remember his beautiful life. Don will be laid to rest at South Lawn Cemetery.  Don's family invites all of his friends to a reception at Celebrations, across the street from Don's Hot Rod Shop, located at 2823 N. Stone Ave, 85705 following the service and internment.  Hot rods are welcome and encouraged.

Don’s family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Harmony Hospice for their support, care, and the compassion they showed our father and grandfather.
