Mary Ruth Jones, age 94 of Kingsport, TN entered the glories of Heaven on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Ruth was born on December 18, 1929, in Kingsport, TN to Robert and Ora Winegar. On February 9, 1951, Ruth married the love of her life, Rufus Lee Jones, and after 54 years of a beautiful life together, he preceded her in death in 2005.
Ruth loved her family, and she enjoyed cooking and shopping. Ruth always kept a tidy home, and she was a lifelong member of Morrison Chapel Methodist Church in Kingsport.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Rufus Jones; son, Allen Jones; three sisters; and one brother. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mitzi Gilliam and husband Tim; daughter-in-law, Sharon Jones; grandchildren, Aimee Bland and husband Darrell, Tomara Groot and husband Tom, Matt Gilliam and wife Amber, and Jeremy Jones and wife Jodie; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Seth, Noah, Blake, Alexandra, Hannah, Kira, Keatan, Sydney, and Lauren; great-great-granddaughter, Charley Rae; sister-in-law, Lynda Jones; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastors Jon Rogers and Karl Berndt officiating. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:00 am at Holston View Cemetery. Jeremy Jones, Matt Gilliam, Darrell Bland, Tom Groot, Noah Gilliam, Seth Bland, Blake Gilliam and Zach Elkins will be serving as pallbearers. Bradley Gibson, Jack Henry, Mike Dexter, Steve Frazier, and Gary Bellamy will be serving as honorary pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.
