In Loving Memory

Willette Padget Satterwhite, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024 at the age of 100, surrounded by her family.  Mrs. Satterwhite was born on February 17, 1924 in Columbia, South Carolina.  She was the eldest daughter of the late William Nathaniel and Lucille Wise Padget.  She was predeceased by two siblings, Joe Wise Padget (1945) and Melverda Padget Hook (2015).  She was married to the love of her life, The Reverend John Lloyd Satterwhite III, who predeceased her in 2020 after 67 wonderful years of marriage.

 

A native of Saluda, South Carolina, Mrs. Satterwhite graduated from Saluda High School as valedictorian.  She attended Winthrop College where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in English.  Following graduation, she taught French and English in the public schools of Saluda, Aiken and Beaufort counties.  During her long career as the "preacher's wife" she played the organ, taught Sunday and Bible school and devoted countless hours caring for parishioners.

 

Mrs. Satterwhite had three children: the late William David Satterwhite (2021), John Mark Satterwhite and wife Ann, and Laura Satterwhite Hodge and husband Jamie.  She was affectionately known as Grandma and Nana to her four grandchildren whom she adored.  Camden Hodge (Christine), Foster Hodge (Alexia), Elizabeth Satterwhite Johnson (Parker) and Ann Padget Satterwhite.  She was also blessed with two great grandchildren, James Hodge and Hales Johnson.  Also surviving is a special family friend and caregiver, Pearl Williams.  

 

A celebration of her life will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 1:00 PM.  The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.  Memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1500 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169 or Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, 101 North Calhoun Street, Saluda, SC 29138.
