Randy Eugene Roberts
January 16th, 1957 - October 9th, 2024
"I love you more..."
Randall “Randy” Eugene Roberts passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington, SC on the morning of October 9, 2024. Born in 1957 to Bernice (Mabry) and Clyde Roberts in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the second-born and only son of the family who were long-time residents of Jonesboro, Georgia.
He spent his career in the trucking industry at Brown Trucking, then moved to Averitt Express in Atlanta where he served as the Service Center Manager during the Atlanta Olympics. Randy's final career move was to Southeastern Freight Lines where he worked his way up to President of a subsidiary until his retirement.
Randy had a reputation as a jokester. His most famous prank as a teenager was when he threw a very large bullfrog into the bathtub at his older sister, who promptly alerted the entire neighborhood to the offense while Randy hid! Randy was a funny man who brightened any situation with his wit and humor. He loved music and would break out into song at a moment’s notice. He particularly enjoyed making up songs and singing to people around him with comical lines. Randy loved bands like Third Day, Casting Crowns, Lauren Daigle, and Aerosmith.
He was an avid car lover and enjoyed taking his classics to car shows or cruising around town. Randy had a rescued Schnauzer, Bentley, from the local humane society and was especially attached to him. Bentley was rarely away from Randy's side, and was a loyal companion by his side until the end.
All of those who knew Randy knew what a gift he was to be around and how much joy his presence brought to any situation. The absence of his personality, his generosity and kindness will leave a void for his loved ones. Randy had a great character and had the ability to love those around him well no matter the circumstances.
Above all, Randy was a beloved son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was devoted to his precious wife, Janine, who he loved so much. He was so glad to have found a partner to share his life with. Randy's last words to Janine when she told him she loved him were, “I love you more”.
He was equally devoted to his children and loved being “Grandy” to his grandkids. He was so proud to tell everyone that he had SEVEN grandchildren. He always wanted his grandchildren to know that “it’s true” when they walked in the door…it’s true translated into, “I still love you, now forever and always, it will be true - Grandy loves you.”
Randy suffered from an aggressive form of cancer; the diagnosis of which came as a shock. He didn’t let cancer steal his humor, though. On one of his last evenings, as his sister, Denise, tried to care for him, he teased her that if she didn’t stop telling him what to do then he was going to put her on a bus back to Atlanta.
The aggressive nature of the disease brought a very sudden and quick decline but, in the end, he was ready for Heaven, wrapped in his prayer quilt and surrounded by his loved ones.
Randy is survived by his wife, Janine Roberts; his sisters, Denise Livingston (Dwight), Karen Ward, and sister-in-law, Joy Grainger (Jeremy); his children, Amanda Campbell (Justin), Matthew Roberts (Katie), Mitchell Roberts and Allie Sparks; his grandchildren, Cameron Roberts, Elliot Roberts, Sam McKay, Ruby Campbell, Madison Roberts, Mason Roberts and one more grandson to be born later this month; plus nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom loved him very much. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will hold a visitation for family and friends on Friday, October 11th, 2024, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Woodridge Funeral Home, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC. His service and burial will be private.
