Larry James Maxwell SR, age 73, of Kingsport, TN, went home to be with his Lord on Friday October 11, 2024. He was born in Elizabethton, TN to the late Ellaware Gorman. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, served in the United States Marine Corp, and retired after working 40 years from Domtar (Mead Paper).
He was a member of Full Gospel Mission Church, 740 East Sevier AVE, Kingsport, TN, where he served on the board as President of his church. He loved to open Sunday service and worship the Lord with his all. He served as security and handed out plates at The Kitchen of Hope because he loved to help people in need. He rode motorcycles all his life and enjoyed riding with friends. He was in a bowling league and enjoyed his time with other retirees, that was his joy, to be with friends and family. He also loved attending antique car shows in his 66 Oldsmobile.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn R. Maxwell; grandmother, Tillie Avery; mother, Ellaware Gorman; father, Fred Maxwell; sister, Jeanette Gorman; and son, Courtney Webster. Those left to cherish Larry’s memory are his son, Larry J. Maxwell JR and wife Dina of Kingsport; daughters, Alyria France and husband Bruce, Greensboro, NC, Angela Morris and husband James of Canton, MS, and Crystal Bell of Kingsport, TN; his siblings, Luther Lee Maxwell of Johnson City, Harold Carson of Johnson City, Janie and Bill Bowers of Elizabethton, Janice and Harvey Simmons of Elizabethton; good friends, William and Mary Gamble; and a host of grandkids, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am at Shiloh Baptist Church, 712 East Sevier Ave, Kingsport, TN 37660. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 am with Pastor Alesia McElrath officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park and Larry’s family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at his home.
