Rita Marjorie (Wykert) Johnson, 101, of Eaton, died Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Fairacres Manor, Greeley, CO. Rita was born on Dec. 29, 1922, in Weld County, CO, to Arthur G. and Margaret L. (Grassmee) Wykert.
Rita grew up on a farm near Ault and graduated from Ault High School. On Aug. 1, 1944, she married Robert Walter Johnson in Oakland, CA. She lived in many small communities around Greeley, before residing at Benjamin Square in Eaton. She worked as a bookkeeper for Hildebrandt Equip., Carter & Conley offices and then for 20 years at the John Deere dealership in Greeley.
Rita was a bowler for 50 years, attending many years of local, state and national tournaments. She was also an active member of the F. C. E. club, serving as both President and Treasurer. She was an avid sports fan, a rabid Denver Nuggets fan, and enjoyed attending out of state Bronco games. Rita loved reading, particularly books on Native Americans and the West. She enjoyed cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean & Panama Canal as well as a trip through the Canadian Rockies.
Rita is survived by two sons, Clifford L. (Margaret Roper) and Charles R. (Dona Hiers); one daughter, Margaret M. Johnson; four grandsons (Robert, David, Jeremy, and Jacob) and four great-grandchildren (Sydney, Jaiden, Kyle and Erik). She is predeceased in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Adamson Life Celebration Home in Greeley.
