Thomas Patrick "Tom" Kane, Jr.
February 1st, 1940 - October 14th, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Patrick "Tom" Kane, Jr., who departed this world peacefully on October 14, 2024, in Perry, Georgia. A tribute to honor Tom's life will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of this remarkable man's enduring legacy of love, laughter, and service.
Born on February 1, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, Tom lived a life characterized by generosity, humor, and unwavering loyalty. Tom proudly served as a communication-electronic operations specialist with the United States Army for 22 years and included a tour in Vietnam in 1968-69. Over his military service he was awarded a Bronze Star, a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and a Army Commendation Medal, to name a few. His service took him around the world and formed the foundation of his life's adventures. His professional journey continued at the esteemed Boeing Aircraft industry company and culminated with dedicated civil service at the Warner Robins Air Force Base. In 1978, he settled in Warner Robins, Georgia, where he contributed significantly to the F15 wing repair efforts, blending his passion for technology and his sense of duty.
Tom’s loved working with his hands fixing all manner of items, but he especially enjoyed carpentry. He created beautiful boxes and cabinets, and frames, treasured by family and friends. This also included almost losing two thumbs in the process which were the butt of many jokes over the years. Each piece reflected his meticulous craftsmanship and creative spirit. Tom's personality was one of charm and generosity, enriched by his quick wit and love for laughter. A steadfast fan of the Steelers and the Warner Robins Demons, he took delight in the camaraderie and competition of sports. His adventurous spirit led him and his family to explore countless corners of the globe, broadening the knowledge and understanding of other nations and cultures of his children. In tribute to his wife’s origins, he also taught himself to speak fluent German.
He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas Patrick Kane, Sr. and Mary Kane (Gibbs), and by his son, Thomas Patrick Kane III. He leaves behind his beloved wife and soul mate, Frieda Kane, daughters Wendy L. Kane and Nancy D. Swaffar, and her husband Mike Swaffar. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Heather Swaffar-Trivedi (Nishant), Michael Thomas Swaffar, and Jennifer Martin (Lawrence), along with his great-granddaughters Madison and Amelia Martin, and his daughter-in-law, Pamela Martin.
