ELMER CALVIN PALFREY (Cal) passed away peacefully in Merritt Island, FL on October 11, 2024. He was nearly 101 years old. Cal was born in Washington, DC to the late Stanley Palfrey Sr and Isabella Lindsay Palfrey on November 23,1923. He worked at the Naval Torpedo Shop in Alexandria, Virginia (1941-1942) while still attending Eastern High School (Class of 1942). Cal is a veteran of World War II, serving as Combat Engineer in General Patton’s Third Army. He earned four battle stars which included the Battle of the Bulge. He joined the U.S. Geological Survey as a Cartographer in 1946. He often said he loved every working day of his career. At retirement in 1978, he and his loving wife AJ (Ada) moved to Merritt Island, FL. They also enjoyed summer times near Annapolis, MD where they were near friends and families in Maryland and Virginia. He loved traveling in European countries, especially his maternal family’s home in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Many cruises followed, including a catamaran trip to the Caribbean with longtime friends. Cal enjoyed fishing, gardening, tennis and golf (the latter he played into his mid 90’s). Cal was preceded in death by brothers Cecil, Stanley, Edgar and Raymond and sister Edith. He was also preceded by his sons Wayne in 2018 and Robert in 2023. He is survived by his wife AJ, his sons Patrick and Ronald and daughter Judith and stepson Scott Culver. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed pictures and FaceTime moments with 27 grandchildren including great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. All of his family and friends will dearly miss him and will tell stories about the lives they shared. Burial plans are not finalized at this time
