Daryl Evans
November 16th, 1955 - October 13th, 2024
In Loving Memory
Daryl Quin Evans, 68 years old, of West Columbia, SC, has gone to Heaven, to be with our Lord, and to be rejoined with his loving Mother, Doris (Jones) Evans and his Father, William Miller Evans.
Born November 16, 1955, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Daryl enjoyed growing up with 3 loving siblings, and as the youngest in the family, was duly spoiled by the entire family. Daryl's Father's career took the family many places, where they eventually landed in the cozy city of Aiken, SC. Daryl graduated from Aiken High School, 1973, where he met and made lifelong friends, Tommy Dyer and Leon Sanders. After attending USC Aiken, Daryl followed in his Father's footsteps and began a long successful construction career in management, most recently employed by Blanchard Machinery, in West Columbia, SC, as Parts Operations Manager, for 17 years. Having retired in 2019, Daryl began to enjoy his favorite pastime of golf, billiards, and spending time with friends.
Daryl was also Team Captain of the Cussin Bill's pool team, where they won so many trophies, there was no room in the home to display. The team eventually disbanded after the St. Andrews club closed. Team members included more lifelong friends, John Effa, Sam (Sandra) Pressley, Steve (d) Cline, Bill (Cheryl) Matthews, Erik Erickson, and TC (d) (Ellen d) Craney.
Daryl and his wife, Yvonne, enjoyed living in the beautiful Westover Acres Community, in West Columbia, SC, where again he met and made many more friends, especially the enduring friendship of David (Coach) and Priscilla Bundrick. Taking immaculate care of the lawn, and completing a full home renovation of the 1974 Ranch, Daryl was quite happy with his accomplishments. He loved life and lived it thoroughly.
Daryl adored his Gamecocks, and watched them each and every time they were televised. Even had a chance meeting with Steve Spurrier, at the Columbia Airport in 2017, where he got a picture with the infamous Coach, and had it signed. He had the picture blown up to life-size, and displayed it proudly inside his Garnet and Black garage.
Daryl also loved his fur babies, Siamese Twins, Cowboy and Shelby. They are wondering where their loving Dad is.
Most recently, he and his wife began a Friday tradition of meeting friends for lunch, at Hemingway’s, in Irmo, SC. This time meant so much to him, and he looked forward to this happy occasion every week. Again meeting and making so many strong loving relationships with these dear friends, especially Jack and Chris Payne. Daryl was easy to love.
Daryl was diagnosed with cancer in March, 2024. He had put up a long hard fight, he was a very brave warrior, but Our Lord took mercy on his pain, and took him home on Sunday, October 13. His best friend of 35 years, John Effa, has been a rock for the family, during this enormous loss.
A special thanks to the Still Hopes Rehabilitation Community, and Janet Haladay, whose team of Nurses, including Leah, Elaine, Mary and Kiera, as well as MSA homecare with Suzanne, his personal nurse, who provided outstanding care and affection for Daryl. They all believed in him.
Daryl is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Yvonne Shelby. His sister, Cheryl (Larry) Orr, his brother, Jett (Becky) Evans, his sister Willette (Tom) Papes, and sisters-in-law, Chauncey Buchan and Miriam (Stan d) McCune.
A huge thank you to all of Daryl's friends, for loving him unconditionally. This brings great comfort to our family.
We plan a Celebration of Life, but as yet is undetermined. In lieu of flowers, we encourage any donations be sent to Sunset Animal Clinic, where Dr. Greg Brown and his team consistently donate to the research and rescue of animals.
