Margaret T. Newkirk, 90, of Tribes Hill, New York, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024 at Hillcrest Springs in Amsterdam. Margaret was born in Esperance, New York on September 19, 1934 to the late Percy and Anna (Sellick) Tallmadge. She graduated from Fultonville High School with the Class of 1953.
On May 19, 1956, Margaret was united in marriage to Harry W. Newkirk Jr., with whom she shared 51 wonderful years until his passing on May 4, 2007. Margaret devoted her time and attention to raising her family with Harry for a number of years. She later worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam for 22 years, until her retirement in 1999.
A woman of great faith and community, Margaret was a member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, where she participated in the Church Guild, and taught Sunday School. Margaret was also a member of the Tribes Hill Fire department Ladies Axiliary, and actively worked with the Tribes Hill Girl Scouts.
Throughout her life one of Margaret’s most shining qualities was her kind and caring nature. She was always present for her family, and served as a caregiver for many relatives throughout her lifetime. In her spare time, Margaret loved to read.

(David) Lynaugh of Gloversville, and Kathleen Newkirk of Fresno, CA; her sister, Janet Sievert of Gloversville; sisters-in-law, Sharon Tallmadge of Auriesville and Janet Newkirk of Sprakers; three grandchildren, Matthew (Marie) Lynaugh, Jade DeGuair, and Jordan (Jess) DeGuair; two great-granddaughters, Mila and Nyla; her godson, Joseph Barbuti; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Aside from her parents, Percy and Anna, Margaret is preceded in passing by her siblings, Virgil Tallmadge, Percy (Harriet) Tallmadge, Thelma (Charles) Lampkin, and Evelyn (Charles) Grandy; as well as by her brother-in-law, Charles Newkirk.
In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, there will be no funeral services held.
