Louie Lanton, 69 of Rockland County, NY, passed away in Colorado Springs, CO on October 10, 2024. Born to Johanna and Jessie Lanton on May 6, 1955, Louie lived in Rockland County for 62 years.

In 2017, due to growing health concerns, Louie moved to Georgia and then to Colorado in 2021 where he spent his remaining days surrounded by love. He was adored by all who knew him and enjoyed spending time talking to anyone and everyone about wide-ranging topics including music, fishing, family genealogy, history, politics, theology, and sports. In fact, those privileged enough to call him “friend” would often receive a phone call from him in the middle of the night...just to chat.

Showcasing his stellar athletic abilities as starting quarterback for the 1971-72 North Rockland High School Red Raiders, Louie led them to an undefeated championship season. So superb was his performance that he was inducted into the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame. Moreover, he was also a promising amateur and Golden Gloves boxer before his career was cut short by a car accident in 1979.  Louie continued to be a part of Rockland County’s boxing culture for decades, both as a boxing coach for the Police Athletic League and various gyms across the county, and as a trusted and compassionate mentor to Rockland’s youth.

In 1982, Louie joined the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department and worked as a Sergeant until 2005. Known to always be fair and honest, he earned the respect and admiration of both the inmates and his fellow officers, many of whom became his life-long friends.  He was known for his passion for the Blues his playful nature, and always laughing, joking, and singing.

Louie was preceded in death by his father Jessie Willard Lanton, his mother Johanna Lanton and his wife and best friend Kimberly.  He is survived by his brothers John, George, Jessie, and Mark, his children, Louie II and Annette, and his five grandchildren Tiana, Keyshara, Thaddeus, Louis III, Eliyana, Hanna Jo, and Andelina Grace.

Louie Lanton was a big-hearted, charming and exuberant soul who always enjoyed people coming together, bringing out the best in us, and teaching us how to laugh at ourselves. He truly never met a stranger.  His true passion was talking to people, making new friends, and spending time with his family.

He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
