Jeanne Roberta Dohrer
August 20th, 1952 - October 19th, 2024
Jeanne Roberta Dohrer, 72, of Thornton, CO, was called home to glory by her Lord and Savior on October 19, 2024.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church on October 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Mark Koch officiating. Inurnment will follow on a later date.
Jeanne was born in Albany, NY to Arthur and Edythe Houghton on August 20, 1952. She went to high school at Colony Central High School and graduated in 1970. She and Duane (Dewey) met in Mesa, AZ through his brother and sister-in-law in February 1978. It was love at first sight, and they were married on September 2nd that year. Jeanne supported Duane while he completed college. Duane received a job offer in Denver and she continued to support his new career and in January 1981, they moved their meager belongings and began the next chapter of their lives in Colorado.
After the first year in Colorado, they settled in Thornton where Jeanne and Duane were blessed with three beautiful daughters. She was an amazing mother who always put her children’s needs first. She taught Sunday School in their church and assumed leadership roles in the youth groups while they were growing up. She enrolled them in dance classes, swimming lessons, piano lessons, school bands and various sports. All these activities were done in her spare time, while she worked full-time as a receptionist for a company in downtown Denver.
After her third daughter was born, working outside the home was no longer an option, so she followed her love of children and began doing daycare in her home. She loved those children as her own and most of them called her Mommy Jeanne. As her daughters got older, she wanted to spend more time with them during the summer, so she began working as a para-professional for special needs children in the Adams 12 School District. She loved working with those children and was a positive influence in their lives. Later, she was blessed with five wonderful grandchildren and poured out more love for them as they grew up.
Jeanne loved her Lord and Savior. She really enjoyed participating in many Bible studies, lived her faith and often invited friends to join her at church. She also enjoyed singing in the Praise Team at her church. Another hobby she was passionate about was scrapbooking where she chronicled her daughters’ lives and family trips. She also enjoyed experiencing and appreciating God’s creation. Family camping trips began in tents and later outings were done with campers and RVs, including three trips to Alaska for the summer.
In 2018, while RVing in Valdez, Alaska, Jeanne suffered a heart attack for three days, without having traditional symptoms. A local doctor diagnosed her medical problem, and she was airlifted to Anchorage for treatment. She received heart failure treatment until her heart was no longer able to function safely and on February 12, 2021, she was blessed with a successful heart transplant. But in August of 2023, Jeanne was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). What seemed to bother her most about the disease was that she was no longer able to verbalize praise to God, but her faith and trust in God inspired so many people in her life.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Duane Dohrer; Daughters: Tonya Hanna (James), Amanda “Mande” Dohrer, Ashley Kluth (Michael); Grand-children: Aithen Dohrer, Aivren Dohrer, Roman Hanna, Elliot Kluth, Lucy Kluth; Siblings: Florence Friend (Alan), Ann Houghton; In-laws: Donald Dohrer (Sharon), Carol Lean, Anita Marso (Fred) and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, In-laws: John Dohrer (Stella), Lois Pearson (Jim), and Marlo Lean.
