David Kelvin Boston
April 13th, 1933 - June 23rd, 2024
It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of David Kelvin Boston, who slipped away peacefully on the 23rd of June, 2024, in Lacey, Washington, at the age of 91. David was born in Everett, Washington, on April 13, 1933, and over his long and rewarding life, he touched the hearts of many with his humor, dedication, and passion for life.
David was a man of many talents and interests. A proud alumnus of Everett High School and Northwestern College, his pursuit of knowledge was unwavering. His career was marked by dedication and excellence, spanning decades through various notable positions. His service in the Army from 1955 to 1957 shaped much of his early career. At Fort Ord, CA he began with Infantry Basic Training, later advancing his skills at Fort Gordon, GA through Radio Teletype School, leading him to Bas Kissingen in Germany, where he served as a Morse Code Operator and Forward Air Control. Additionally, he managed the Post Basketball Team, led American Youth Activities, and even taught Sunday School. His exemplary organizational skills and leadership made significant impacts within the WA State Patrol as a Radio Operator handling Morse Code and as Lieutenant, serving roles as Weight Control Officer and Trooper. His career further flourished as an Executive Director for the WA State Board of Medical Examiners and Medical Disciplinary Board, and likewise for the NV State Board of Pharmacy and Medical Examiners. He eventually held the post of Director for WIRB, showcasing his broadened influence across different fields of responsibility.
A man of humor and joy, David had a lively spirit that was contagious to everyone he met. His beloved wife Kathy, whom he married on August 26, 1990, at The Wedding Chapel in Bally's Hotel, Reno, NV, shares fond memories of their 36 years together. Whether it was playing the accordion, disc jockeying online for over a decade, or hosting grand Thanksgiving dinners, David's zest for life extended beyond professional achievements into his personal interests.
David was known for his love of country western music, gaming on his Xbox, and solving jigsaw puzzles, showcasing his versatile and curious nature. Boating, fishing, snowmobiling, and traveling filled his leisure time with excitement and fulfilled his love of adventure. His passion for Morse code never left him, and neither did his cherished weekly Skyping sessions with his son Chris and grandson Jason, bonds that kept their family close across distances.
He is survived by his devoted wife Kathleen (Kathy) Boston; his dear step-daughter Angeitique Croven; loving brother Melvin (Mel) L. Boston; grandchildren Jason and Alicia Boston; and great-grandchildren Jakob, Matthew, Trinity, and Sylvan Boston. In addition to his immediate family, he had numerous friends and neighbors that he considered family and brought much joy to their lives through his delightful Friday night dinners and lively conversations.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Bethel Davidson Boston, and his beloved son Christopher Boston. The memory of these loved ones remained close to his heart throughout his life.
A gathering to celebrate and honor David's life will be held on the 26th of October, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the South Sound Manor, 455 North Street SE, Tumwater, Washington, 98501. Friends and family are encouraged to express their condolences. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Humane Society would be greatly appreciated, continuing David’s compassionate legacy and love for his canine companions.
Through this tribute, we remember David not just for his service and accomplishments, but for the joy he brought to those around him. His laughter, energy, and honest demeanor remain in our hearts as cherished memories that will guide and inspire us always.
