Marsha Silverman Firestone
November 8th, 1943 - October 24th, 2024
Marsha was a “rock star” among her peers. Glazing was her passion, and she perfected a string of Matte Crystalline Glazes. The ultimate potter her work is on exhibit in The Mather Spa.
Marsha Silverman was born in New York City in 1943 and moved upstate to Schenectady, NY. She trained as a ballerina, and even now, movement is implicit in her forms.
Marsha left home at 16 and moved back to New York, where she finished high school at the Professional Children’s School while studying ballet at the old Metropolitan Opera and Joffrey Ballet. After deciding ballet was not going to be her career, she enrolled in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where she majored in ceramics. She was awarded the Boit Prize and the Clarissa Bartlett Traveling Scholarship in 1971.
She set up her first studio in Rexford, New York, in 1972. After marrying in 1975, she moved her studio to Anchorage, Kentucky. Her studio was then located in Miami, Florida, where she lived and worked until she retired in 2024 to Tysons, VA.
