Robert Douglas Alexander was born on July 11, 1934 in San Francisco, California to Douglas Carroll Alexander and Phoebe Carter Alexander. He graduated from Menlo College with a bachelor's degree and married Marion Ann Pingree who he met while she attended Stanford.  They had two children, Douglas Alexander who lives with his wife Gayle in Salem, Oregon, and Phoebe Calcara who lives with her husband Rick in Norman, Oklahoma. Bob and Ann have seven grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.

Bob lived a unique life, traveling extensively and engaging in a wide variety of careers and hobbies.  He worked in the real estate and finance industries and was a cattle rancher before retiring.  He was a private pilot, an open ocean sailor having raced in the Transpacific Yacht Race from Newport Beach to Honolulu twice, loved fast cars and horseback riding, and was a devoted father and grandfather.  He was passionate about education, making sure that each of his children and grandchildren received quality educations, and supporting many others. Bob was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many leadership positions over the years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ann who passed 22 months earlier.  Waiting to be reunited with her was probably one of the toughest challenges of his life.  He passed very peacefully in his home on Sunday afternoon, October 20, 2024, in the presence of Phoebe, Doug and Gayle.

His memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on November 16th at the Santa Clara 6th Ward building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 3132 River Road, Eugene, Oregon 97404.

His family requests that rather than sending flowers, if you are so inclined please consider making a contribution to a charity which supports educational opportunities for young people.
