Amelia "Amy" Greco

Amelia “Amy” Steiger Greco, LPN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 29, 1940, a daughter of the late Eugene K. and Edith (Smith) Steiger. She was a lifelong resident and was a 1958 graduate of Fonda Fultonville High School. She graduated from the Amsterdam School of Practical Nursing, receiving her LPN Certification.

Amy was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. She first worked for St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam. Amy then went to work for her husband at the former Auggie’s Auto Parts in Amsterdam. In 1990, she went to work for the former Montgomery County Infirmary in Amsterdam until retiring in 2001. Amy also worked as a nurse for Hospice of Amsterdam. 

Amy married Augustine “Auggie” G. Greco on December 12, 1970, it was a loving union of 43 years until his passing on March 14, 2014.

Survivors include her daughter, Gina Yesse (Eric); grandchildren, Robert Yesse, William Yesse (Cassandra), Nicholas Yesse (Alana), Amelia Burke (Steven), Todd Greco (Diane) and Jeremy Greco (Rachel); loves of her life, Sophia and Isabella Yesse, Terry, Sebestian and Emma Greco; brother, Rene Steiger (Patricia); stepson, Samuel Greco. Amy is predeceased by her brothers, Eugene Steiger, Henry Steiger, John Steiger and Robert Steiger; sisters, Mary Sheridan and Edith Daye. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 12 noon at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24 Pine Street, Amsterdam with Rev. Dr. John A. Califano officiating. Calling hours will be held prior to the service at the church beginning at 10am. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.
