The Lord is my Shepherd

Donald Dean Ewing, was born on January 5, 1929, in Great Falls, MT, and died on October 26, 2024, at the age of 95 in Tucson, AZ with Carol, his devoted wife of over 66 ½  years singing to him.  Don is survived by their beloved children Brian Ewing (Sari), Lezlie Campisano (Chris), and Lynn Cassidy (Scott).  He was a cherished grandfather to Madeline (Matthew), Olivia, McKenna, Paul, and Ave, and great-grandfather to John and Junie.

Don was preceded in death by his son Paul, his parents H. Dean and Violet Ewing, his in-laws Ada and Norman "Bud" Mahn, and his brother Harold Ewing.

A humble man of deep compassion and faith, Don was a dedicated surgeon who devoted his life to healing and caring for others. His journey in medicine began with a fervent wish at the tender age of five to become a doctor. He pursued his education at the University of Notre Dame and St. Louis University. His medical training continued with an internship at Milwaukee County General, where he met Carol.

Don's commitment to medical service extended into his military career. He served proudly in the U.S. Air Force.

In 1958 Don married Carol Mahn in Wauwatosa, WI, and in 1960 they moved to Tucson, AZ, where the mountains reminded him of his cherished Montana.  Don was an integral part of the Tucson medical community and a beloved doctor to so many. He and Carol were lifelong parishioners at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and many other organizations, having been involved in the community for nearly 65 years.  Don and Carol have also been members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem since 1979 with the mission of supporting the Christian presence in the Holy Land

Don was a loyal friend and colleague, a master hunter, fisherman, private pilot, golfer, and generally embraced the great outdoors, especially in his treasured White Mountains. His love for nature, the wilderness, and the desert, was a testament to his appreciation for all of God's creations, reflecting his peaceful and attentive spirit.

A Rosary and Mass in memory of Don will be held on Monday, November 4, beginning at 1:30pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Tucson.   There will be no reception due to the time of day.

A private family burial will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local Society of St. Vincent de Paul in his honor, continuing his legacy of caring and support for those in need.
