Dale was born in Portland, Oregon August 8, 1939 to Richard and June Yeager Nelson. His North Portland, St Johns neighborhood included his grandparents, aunts & uncles and cousins. He attended George School until the family moved to West Union where Dale began 5th grade in the new school. He had fond memories of the neighbor kids, .totaling more than 15 that lived within half a mile. Together they rode bikes along the country roads, played baseball, roamed the open fields and swam at the local pond all in the Helvetia area.
Summers in the 50’s were spent at Grandpa Yeagers farm on Farmington Road growing cucumbers for the family business, Yeagers Pickles in Parkrose.
Graduating in 1957 from Hillsboro High School, Dale was a proud Spartan. Earning a letter in wrestling, attending football games, joining Letterman Club and president of Fire Club. He was an avid swimmer, skier and earned his pilots license. He was proud when he received a discount on his lift ticket for being an “over 70 skiier”. His days at the Hillsboro Aquatic Center and acquaintances he met there were very important to him.
Dale joined the US Army Ready Reserve in the summer of his junior year and spent summer at training camps at Camp Pendleton, Ft. Lewis and Ft. Rilea.
Together with his family, he joined the Hillsboro Christian church in the late 50’s. He served faithfully where needed and was blessed to be a part of a supportive Christian community.
Dale began working at PGE Hillsboro in 1961 as a Meter Reader, retiring after 41 years in 2002. He had found his niche as he loved maps, numbers, walking, driving and repetition. He enjoyed joining charity walks/runs and baseball teams.
Charitable contributions can be made in Dale’s memory to ministries of the Hillsboro Christian Church, Humane Society or charity of your choice. Memories of Dale to share with his surviving cousins & families can be left on this website or mailed to cousin, Yvonne Yeager Kresal, 18197 NW Pumpkin Ridge road, North Plains, Ore 97133.
