Marion Ethel Colvin
June 4th, 1940 - October 28th, 2024
Marion spent many happy hours outside ‘puttering’ in her gardens. She enjoyed travel in her later years, visiting Ireland and Scandinavia with John, and Hawaii and Palm Springs with John and friends.
Marion Colvin passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Marion was born June 4, 1940 in Seattle, WA. She grew up in a loving household in the Ballard neighborhood, and attended Loyal Heights Elementary School, James Madison Junior High, and Ballard High School, from which she graduated in 1958.
Marion was an active girl, who could be described as a bit of a ‘tomboy.’ She had many friends, liked sports and music, and was adept at pestering her brother, Harold. She was active in her church community and in church-related activities.
At Ballard High School, Marion was an exceptionally good student, finishing #2 (salutatorian) in her graduating class. She also played clarinet in the school orchestra and band.
While attending Ballard High School, Marion met her future husband, John, at a Youth-For-Christ social event. John was from Northern Ireland, and had been visiting family in Seattle. John was quite smitten by Marion, and upon his return to Ireland, he immediately began making immigration plans. He knew he’d met the love of his life.
Marion and John attended Seattle Pacific College for about a year after high school, but left college and were married in 1960. They were subsequently blessed with two sons, Steven and Timothy.
They initially made their home in Mount Vernon, WA, but later moved to Seattle and lived in a few homes in Seattle’s north end. Marion worked at Sea-First bank in her 20’s, then later as a teacher’s aide in the Seattle School district.
In the 1970’s Marion and John moved their family to Edmonds, where Marion served again for a time as a teacher’s aide in the Edmonds School district. She also began to work part-time in accounting at Drake & McDonald Company, for her father Harlan, and with her husband, John. As John eventually purchased Harlan’s interest in the company, Marion’s role in the business expanded.
Marion enjoyed annual vacations in Penticton, B.C. with family and friends. She was also a fixture on the sidelines at countless soccer, baseball, and basketball games with John and her sons.
In the 1980’s Marion and John built their first home in the Edmonds bowl, then later sold that home to move to a home on 5 acres in Snohomish. Marion had this property landscaped beautifully and spent many happy hours outside ‘puttering’ in her gardens.
Marion enjoyed travel in her later years, visiting Ireland and Scandinavia with John, and Hawaii and Palm Springs with John and friends.
Marion grew up in the Assembly of God church tradition, and enjoyed membership at Fremont Tabernacle, Westminster Assembly of God, Edmonds Church of the Open Bible, Shoreline Community Church, and Snohomish Faith Church over the years. Her Christian friends and faith in God were strong sustaining forces throughout her life.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband, John, and is survived by her sons Steven and Timothy, daughters-in-law Lisa and Jenny, and grandchildren Sofia, Benjamin and Henry.
A celebration of life for Marion is planned for Saturday, November 23rd. The service will be at Snohomish Faith Church, 1220 22nd Street, Snohomish, WA 98290. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Snohomish Faith Church in Marion’s name.
