Marie Murphy

Marie “MomMom” Murphy died peacefully in her sleep at her Benton House apartment on October 29th, 2024, in Bluffton, SC. She was 96 years old. Marie was born on May 4th, 1928, in Pittsburgh, PA.

Marie grew up in a large Italian family on the South Side of Pittsburgh where she met and married her childhood sweetheart Ralph Murphy. Together they raised a family and eventually moved to Springfield Delaware County PA.

Marie was a full-time homemaker and a dedicated mother who loved her two boys. After raising her children, she worked as a sales associate at Gimbels and later joined Strawbridge & Clothier as a photographer. Marie also did volunteer work at the local hospital and prepared dinners for Meals on Wheels.

Marie loved to cook and entertain, and hosted family Sunday dinners and holiday parties. Marie loved to dance. Everyone enjoyed watching Marie and her equally talented brother Jack swing around the dance floor!

Marie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kathryn Murphy; her son and daughter-in-law Vincent and Mary Murphy; and four grandchildren (Michael, Lauren, Megan and Sean) and nine great-grandchildren (Layla, Zack, Danny, Vinnie, Birdie, Kara, Dominic, Mills and one on the way). She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her brothers Joe, Carl and Jack; and her sisters Stella and Carmella.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on November 19, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. All are welcome to attend. Marie will be buried next to her beloved husband Ralph at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA in a private ceremony on December 5th, 2024.
