Lifelong Amsterdam resident Mary Jane Black, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Saratoga Hospital.
Mary Jane was born on May 15, 1936, in Amsterdam to the late Bennett and Margaret (Portley) Black. She graduated from Amsterdam High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in teaching. She taught at Amsterdam School District and worked for the Amsterdam Public Library.
She loved doing her large crossword puzzles, and always enjoyed going on long walks.
Mary Jane was predeceased by her parents Bennett and Margaret Black; brothers James, Bennett, and Bernard Black; as well as sisters Shirley Kwiatkowski and Elizabeth Frasier. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In keeping with Mary Jane’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Amsterdam Free Library by mail to 28 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or online Giving to the Library.
