Robert Davidson LaneJuly 15, 1935 – November 1, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Davidson Lane, known to all as Bob, who passed peacefully on November 1, 2024, at the age of 89. Bob was born on July 15, 1935, in Boston, Massachusetts, and lived a full and meaningful life surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Diane  (D’Ann)  Lane; their three daughters, Noelle Neary and her husband, Chris Neary; Donna DeStefano and her husband, Glenn DeStefano; and Robin Lane. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Megan, Kelly, Bobby, Cooper, Jack, Renee, and Kevin, and cherished the joy of being a great-grandfather to Parker and Sawyer.

Bob grew up in Newton Massachusetts.  He attended Williams College, majoring in Math.  At Williams Bob made lifelong friends, many whom also moved and lived on Hilton Head Island during his retirement years.

Bob served in the US Army Reserve and active duty for 6 years.

He attended New York University earning an MBA with Distinction in Corporate Finance. Thereafter, he held a career in the banking industry for 38 years specializing in Credit for Domestic and International Banking. After retirement, Bob used his expertise to serve on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for Glenview State Bank, Glenview IL. He managed the Investment portfolio for the National Flutist Society on Hilton Head island.

Bob and D’Ann raised their family in Summit NJ and upon retirement, moved to Hilton Head Island in 1997.  He became active in the community, serving as the President of the Moss Creek Community Association and President of the Williams College Alumni Association Lowcountry. He continued to volunteer at The Seabrook of Hilton Head, helping on the landscaping and marketing committees.

Bob loved traveling the world to Europe, Africa and Alaska.  He was an avid skier, with his favorite ski mountain being Snowmass in CO.  His love for the arts and music was enjoyed by attending performances on Broadway in NYC. Here in Hilton Head Island, he enjoyed attending the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra and the Hilton Head Performing Arts Center. In his later years, he devoted much time to Duplicate Bridge, earning Master Points along the way.

Throughout his life, Bob was known for his loyalty and unwavering commitment to his family and friends. He had a goofy sense of humor, loved gardening, and hosted many famous Kentucky Derby parties.  His legacy will be carried on by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

D’Ann, Noelle, Donna and Robin extend our heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers at Fraser Heath Center and the Hospice nurses and aids who worked on Dad’s case.

A Celebration of Life is planned for February 1, 2025. It will be a private event for family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to:
