FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS

Betty Ann Mildred Florian, 96, died peacefully in her home on November 2, 2024. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Florian, twin sister Gloria H. Leiding, sisters Dorothy E. Lofgren, June R. Mostowy, brothers Arthur J. Schuster and Raymond W. Schuster. Betty is survived by nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She was their favorite “cool aunt”. Born August 25, 1928 to Anna Albertine Krause and Arthur Peter Schuster and was raised in Chicago, Illinois where she attended Lakeview High School along with her twin sister. Betty and Gloria had a very close sister relationship and did everything together. After high school she attended secretarial school and was a wiz at shorthand and typing that she never forgot. Betty was able to put her skills to work and had various secretarial positions and was always the “go-to-person” for others in the office. Betty met the love of her life and dancing partner, John Florian. On a cold snowy day in February, 1954, they were married in Chicago. They both loved their road trips especially to Las Vegas and Miami and decided to move to Winter Haven, Florida where Betty resided more than forty years at Oakwood Estates. She was involved in the Social Club and after learning how to swim, later in life, she went on to create the water aerobics program for the community. Betty had a natural talent for crafts, creating greeting cards from recycled cards which she sold to Oakwood Estates residents to benefit the Social Club Fund and crocheting sleeping mats, made from recycled plastic bags called plarn, for the homeless. She enjoyed all the social activities especially Sunday Night Bingo with friends, especially when she won, which was quite often. Betty retired from Super Storage, of Winter Haven, where she took care of all the office duties and loved greeting the customers. She definitely was a “people person” and enjoyed being around people. Betty grew up loving the Chicago Cubs baseball team while living in Chicago and had many great stories of attending games, at Wrigley Field, when she was young with her twin sister. That love of baseball carried over to her being an avid Tampa Bay Ray’s fan. Her knowledge of players and the game were quite impressive. Betty like watching the news and weather channel and often said she would have liked to have been a meteorologist. The newspaper was delivered daily to her home and she was always aware of current events. Betty’s family would like to thank her special friends at Oakwood Estates for their loving help and caring support. We will all miss her laughter, sense of humor and love.
